In such a late fashion , as the Italian usually think, the Second teams are coming in starting from the next season!!
The FIGC released the news declaring that with the intention of valuing the youngsters, hot prospects of each club the Second Team will be allowed to play in the Italian Serie C beginning from season 2018/19 but the project will be fully developed the season after. Of course the Second Teams are allowed only for the Serie A teams. The federation believes that this big change will help also the Italy National Team and the youth players as well in a double process of growing and accumulating serious match shape and form, just like in most of the European Leagues.
Few rules:
- If a second team will be promoted from the Serie C to the Serie B they cannot go further than that since the Second team will never be allowed to face their First Team. The Second team must be in a lower category of the First team one and this will be automatically in any case.
- If a Second team get relegated in Serie D they won't be able to register for the league but they will have to wait the season after to register again in the Serie C.
- The Second teams are not allowed to take part in the Italian Cup but they will compete for the Serie C Italian Cup.
The Second teams can have 23 players but at least 19 of them must be born since 1 January 1996. At least 16 of them must have 7 years of registration in a FIGC related club. Players can be switched between Second and First team until reaching 5 First team appearances which is the limit a youngster can reach before being forced to remain in the First team.
