1)Chi Sei, cosa fai e perche' la tua vita e' correlata al Subbuteo ?

Ciao, sono Andrea Stanislai, 50 anni, abito di Volterra e nella vita faccio l'impiegato nell'azienda che gestisce il servizio idrico. Il subbuteo? Come la maggior parte dei giocatori è stata una passione, insieme al pallone, dell'infanzia..ho incominciato a giocare a otto anni, non mi ricordo come è nata questa cosa...ma eravamo una quindicina di amici e almeno una decina di loro avevano campo e squadre e tutto quello che era legato al calcio rappresentava un interesse. Ho giocato amichevolmente, anche se amichevolmente non si può dire perché le partite con gli amici, specialmente qualcuno, erano all'ultimo sangue, forse più di quelle dei tornei attuali, fino a 16 anni. Poi sono subentrati altri interessi, ma ho sempre conservato le squadre come un gioiello.

Poi, nel 2009, insieme a alcuni di quei vecchi amici è ritornata la voglia di provare a fare una partita e da lì è stata un escalation, dopo pochi mesi avevamo già organizzato un campionato con 22 giocatori, e puntualmente per 4/5 anni abbiamo replicato le competizioni che via via si giocavano realmente nel calcio, coppa del mondo, europei..coppa America..etc..

Non eravamo però a conoscenza che esistessero dei circuiti regionali e nazionali, giocavamo solo tra noi, tra l'altro i primi anni senza contromossa..con le regole che usavano da piccini...finché uno non sbaglia la palla è sua, l'altro sta a guardare e, prima del tiro bisognava appunto dire "tiro!" e aspettare il "vai" del portiere. Poi un contatto con i "colleghi" livornesi e da lì la scoperta prima del mondo old, con la partecipazione a tanti tornei e anche l'organizzazione della "famosa" tenzone volterrana, mi pare per almeno tre anni, nella quale i giocatori usavano le squadre con i colori e i nomi delle famiglie nobili volterrane. Poi l'abbandono dell'old e l'affiliazione con la fisct. Oggi, fortunatamente, sono riuscito a trasmettere questa passione a Matteo, mio figlio, e sono derby infiniti...

1)Who are you, what do you do, where are you from and how's your life related to Subbuteo?

Hi! I'm Andrea Stanislai, I'm 50 years old, I live in Volterra and I work in the hydro-services business for a company. Subbuteo has always been a passion, just like most of the other players, which grew along with the Football/Soccer one, since I was a kid. I started playing it when I was 8 years old but I don't exactly remember how it happened. We were about 15 friends and at least 10 of them owned a Subbuteo pitch and teams and everything linked to Football represented an interest for us. I used to play let's say friendly even if it wasn't THAT friendly because the matches against my friends (especially some of them) were always to the death maybe even more than the professional ones! Then I got caught in different interests but I always kept my teams as the were jewels.

Then, in 2009, the passion and hunger of trying Subbuteo again  definitely got me together with some old friends. That was just a new starting point, an escalation and after few months we already organised a league with 22 players. We re-created  for about 4/5 years the same competitions they were making in real football like World Cup, European Championship, Copa America and so on.
We didn't know that there were actually Regional and National circuits, we always used to play amongst friends. The first times we played using kids rules , without the counter move so until a person didn't make a mistake the ball was still in his possess, the other player was just looking and waiting. Before shooting you were forced to say :<<Shoot>> and waiting the keeper to answer <<I am ready>>.

Then thanks to a contact from Livorno I discovered the Old Subbuteo World and I started taking part in many Official competitions and also organised the infamous Tenzone Volterrana, for about 3 years I guess, in which the teams represented the old noble families of Volterra. Then I left the Old Subbuteo world  in order to join the FISCT. I luckily managed to pass my passion to my son Matteo nowadays so we are playing infinite derby!!

2)Qual e' il tuo primo ricordo del Subbuteo?(La tua primavolta) 

Come ho già detto non mi ricordo esattamente come è nata questa bella malattia...ma se penso al Subbuteo da piccolo, la prima cosa che mi viene in mente é l'odore della cantina di Carlo, uno dei miei più grandi amici non solo subbuteistici, dove ci trovavamo per giocare all'infinito e quanti ne prendevo,  lui è di qualche anno più grande di me e mi massacrava! posso dire che è stato il mio maestro di Subbuteo.

Ecco per me quello é  profumo del subbuteo..tanti associano il profumo del nugget al subbuteo dell'infanzia, noi non sapevamo nemmeno cosa era il lucido, solo tanto girelli..

2)What's your first memory about Subbuteo ? (your first time)

As I said I don't really remember exactly how this "illness" started but if I think of Subbuteo when I was a kid , the first thing that comes up into my mind is the Carlo's basement's smell. Carlo is one of my best friends and not only because of Subbuteo. We used to gather at his place and we had so many matches and gosh how many times I got beaten! He was few years bigger than me and I can say that he was my Subbuteo master.
So to me that "Basement Smell" is the Subbuteo perfume. Many people associate the smell of nugget to Childhood subbuteo, we didn't even know what the Polish was.  

3)Ci puoi fare una distinzione personale tra l Old Subbuteo ed il Subbuteo moderno o Calcio da tavolo?

Premesso che non penso ci dovrebbero essere distinzioni, specialmente tra old e subbuteo moderno, perché si parla sempre del solito gioco, la differenza principale è nello spirito con cui si gioca..più goliardico nell'old, più agonistico nel moderno, anche se ho visto eccezioni sia da una parte che nell'altra. Probabilmente la verità sta nel mezzo, ci si diverte sia a passare giornate in comitiva, sia a vincere le partite, basta trovare l'equilibrio giusto. Il cdt lo conosco poco, ho visto le partite quando i tornei erano organizzati in contemporanea con i nostri, ma non ho mai giocato.

3)Can you make a personal comparison between the Old Subbuteo and the modern Table Soccer? 

Start by saying that there should not be distinctions between Old Subbuteo and Modern Table Soccer, because we are still talking of the same game, I think the biggest difference lies in the Way, the Spirit, one face the game-play. More Goliardic in the Old Subbuteo, more competitive in the Table Soccer, even if I've seen exceptions. The truth is probably in the middle, as usual, it's funny to both enjoying time with friends and winning matches. I don't know much about the new modern Table Soccer, I've just seen matches when they were playing tournament together with ours, but I have never played it. 

Andrea means serious business ! 

4)Hai mai partecipato ad eventi Subbuteo ? Se si quali ? 

Tantissimi, la lista sarebbe troppo lunga...prima gli eventi old e adesso i tornei fisct. Ho avuto la fortuna di partecipare anche ai campionati italiani, sia a squadre che individuali, e anche quest'anno ero riuscito a qualificarmi attraverso il circuito regionale..speriamo di poter ricominciare presto. Da diversi anni sono tesserato con Livorno insieme a Matteo.

4)Did you ever take part in Subbuteo Events? If YES which ones? Did you ever win any prize? If YES which ones?

So many, the list would be too long! First the Old Subbuteo events and now the FISCT tournaments. I also had the luck to take part in the National Championship, in both single player and team modes. Even this year I managed to qualify through the Regional Circuit. Hope we can start again soon. Im a memeber in Livorno , together with Matteo, since few years.

5)Sei prettamente un giocatore di Subbuteo o CDT? Sei anche un collezionista? o altro nel mondo Subbuteo? 

Solo subbuteo, collezionista no, ma ho una trentina di squadre. Mi piace dipingerle a mano. Allego le foto di alcune squadre che ho fatto!

5)Are you strictly a Subbuteo Player or Table Soccer? Are you also a collector? or anything else in the Subbuteo world?

Only Subbuteo. I'm not a collector but I have about 30 teams. I also like hand painting. You can see some of my teams in the pictures.

6)Qual e' la tua squadra preferita ? e quella che usi di piu ? 

Nel calcio sono juventino, quindi logicamente ho due juventus, stranamente tutteddue seconde maglie, quella nera con le strisce bianche sulle maniche e quella giallo blu, che mi sono dipinto da solo. Sono però particolarmente legato a una squadra che avevo e che usavo da piccolo e che ho ancora. Un milan hw terza maglia con maniche rossonere e maglia bianca.

6)What's your favourite team ?

I'm a Juventus supporter in real life, so I obviously own two Juventus , weirdly both away kits, the black one with white stripes on sleeves and the Yellow/Blue, which I painted myself.
Anyway I'm still very tied to a team that I used a lot when I was a kid. A third kit HW Milan with Red and Black stripes on sleeves and white shirt.

7)Qual e' secondo te la squadra piu' rara ? (se Collezioni) e la piu' difficile che vorrai provare a riprodurre in futuro? 

Ho dipinto diverse squadre, ultimamente ho fatto una rivisitazione del St.Pauli, ma quella più difficile è stata la spal che ho dipinto al mio figliolo.

7)Which one is the rarest team from your point of view? and which one the most difficult to make ?

I painted several teams. I recently made a St.Pauli but the most difficult ones to make was definitely the SPAL I made for my son.

8)Cosa pensi di associazioni come WASPA , FISTF e LEGA NAZIONALE SUBBUTEO? Ne fai parte ? 

Faccio parte della fisct e bisogna solo ringraziare chi ci permette di girare l'italia organizzando tornei e facendoci divertire

8)What do you think of associations like WASPA,FISCT and LEGA NAZIONALE SUBBUTEO? Are you part of them?

I am a FISCT member and we only thank whoever allows us to go around Italy playing Subbuteo organising tournaments for us and letting us having fun.

Il subbuteo ai tempi del corona virus?

Purtroppo la situazione attuale ci impedisce di organizzare tornei e spostarsi, anche solo per giocare tra amici, però ci voglio vedere anche un aspetto positivo e mi permetto di dare un consiglio a chi ha la possibilità: montate un campo, in terra, su un tavolo, sospeso per aria e togliete i vostri figlioli da quei maledetti videogiochi o cellulari. Forse poi saranno loro a chiedervi di giocare e magari tra qualche tempo ci troveremo a giocare! Io ho questa fortuna, e poter giocare derby casalinghi con Matteo o andare a giocare insieme a qualche torneo o alle serate al club non ha prezzo.

Ecco, speriamo che questo periodo di arresti domiciliari serva a far avvicinare qualche giovane a questo gioco bellissimo..bisogna cominciare a rinnovare la nostra generazione di anziani..

How's Subbuteo during Corona Virus times?

Unfortunately the situation doesn't allow us to organise tournaments not moving around to play, not even amongst friends, but I would like to see some positive things about it and I would like to give a modest advice to people that have the possibility of doing so: Set up a Subbuteo pitch, on the floor, table, wherever, and take your kids away from those High-Tech videogames and smartphones. Maybe they will be the ones that will ask you to play in a while! I have this luck and it's priceless to play matches with your sons and also going together to play matches around clubs. So, let's hope that this house arrest period will be useful to bring some youngsters close to this amazing game. We must start to renew our senior generation..
