Opening match this time is Brazil Vs Costa Rica and considering the way this World Cup is going even the result here wasn't so sure as I could seem. It was actually Costa Rica the most dangerous team in the first 20 minutes. They had a great chance when Gamboa left Paulinho behind before putting the ball in the middle for the coming Celso Borges who totally squandered the potential lead (13'). Meanwhile the Costa Ricans kicked their opponents every two minutes. Lot of fouls , they look pretty rough! The Brazil forcing was pretty high but they could simply not create any major danger and the few times they got to shot there were poor attempts easily controlled by Keylor Navas. Not that much in the first half. The big surprise was the second half because Costa Rica not only almost completely disappeared from the pitch but also did their best to frustrate the opponents as much as they could. It's useless in this case to make list of the attempts because really there were too many but Most of them were squandered by Neymar, Coutinho and Douglas Costa (they all did a rather poor performance) . Navas did a huge save on a very close range shot by Neymar. Even Casemiro did so many mistakes when he was trying to begin the action. Anyway towards the end the Costa Ricans started to fall down every single action, really something ridiculous, in order to waste time. But you could tell the Brazil pressure was so high that they might have scored any second. The VAR took a away a penalty to Neymar (Good call because the player literally acted like a poor Hollywood actor). The referee gave 6 minutes of injury time and WE think it wasn't even enough! Costa Rica should just change sport for their behaviour but luckily Karma is always watching! Nice action concluded with a Firmino's header for a super light touch by Gabriel Jesus which served it as an assist for the perfect intervention of Coutinho who powerfully shot the ball under Navas's legs for the dramatic 1-0 at 90'+1' !!!
There was even time for the easiest of the goal by Neymar greatly assisted by Douglas Costa. One of the few good things they did. With the empty goal was impossible to miss and he didn't! 2-0 end of the match with a crying Neymar on his knees in the middle of the pitch - probably the pressure on this match got too much even for a guy supposed to be worthing more than 250 millions. Surely he didn't deserve this value today.
Second match of the day is one of the most waited because Nigeria is the last hope for Argentina so spotlight on Nigeria Vs Iceland! The start saw an Iceland literally on fire close to the lead in two occasions at least. At 3' a free kick by Sigurdsson tipped away by the Nigerian goalkeeper Uzoho. Not even two minutes later the Iceland player had a huge chance- a sort of moving penalty kick- but his attempt to place the ball precisely finished directly into the keeper's hands. Nigeria only did a great ball possession but they could never be dangerous for Iceland despite the various cross that went over the opponent area. The blue team was definitely much more dangerous and only for casualty Finnbogason touch didn't finish into the goal at 45' over a dangerous cross from the right side. The first half ended up 0-0 but probably Iceland deserved some more. The second half saw a completely different start from Nigeria which actually got the lead at 50' with a fantastic counter-attack started from behind and brought up by Moses which delivered a nice cross for Musa who firstly controlled the ball then powerfully shot it behind the keeper!! 1-0 ! Really a superb goal! At 57' Ndidi literally sent a rocket from 30 yards towards the goal but Halldorsson saved in corner. Nigeria was in total control of the match. Between 66' and 68' firstly Moses then Gislason tried their luck but both shooting out of target. At 74' it's again a solo attempt by Musa who powerfully shot from the edge of the area getting directly the woodwork and just a minute after Musa made it double. A quick serie of dribbling that sent defenders and keepers over the rainbow then he placed the ball where none could get it. He made it look all simple but it was a very fine signature! 2-0 and the match seemed gone until the VAR gave a penalty to Iceland (another great call of the VAR) . Unfortunately for the "cold" country Sigurdsson missed the penalty shooting far over the bar. That was it. The final assault to the Nigerian fort was almost useless. 2-0 and everything still can happen in this group. Result that incredibly brings Argentina back to life and hope!
Closing game was between Serbia and Switzerland. Serbia started absolutely flying high just like Mitrovic (horrible first match of world cup) who firstly saw his header saved by Sommer but just a minute after a second header got in for the very early and deserved lead! 1-0! What a team spirit this Serbia team! Dzemaili had the chance to equalize at 10' but his shot goes wide. At 31' nice pass by Dzemaili to Seferovic who was free inside the box but Stojkovic made an excellent save. Right before the first half whistle Tadic had two chances both wasted. The ones at 45' was huge since he was all alone in the middle of the box but his header was all wrong. 1-0 after the first 45 minutes. The second half saw some vital signs from Swtizerland in the beginning but Serbia was a very solid team and seemed able to handle them well. But at 52' a great strike from distance by Xhaka found the net for the 1-1. At 59' it's again Switzerland that went close to score. Fantastic strike from a narrow angle by Shaqiri which got the post! Switzerland kept pressing a lot especially from the 80' creating serious danger in the Serbia box. you could tell something could happen and indeed a lethal counter-attack lead by Shaqiri who run by himself from the midfield till the opponents box beating the keeper on his coming out at 90'!!! WHAT A SHOCKER for Serbia! 1-2 final result!
