The first match of the day was between France and Australia. The French started pretty well becoming dangerous minute by minute thanks to the attempts of Mbappe, Pogba and Griezmann but the play wasn't very linear because of the aggressive performance of the yellow shirts players. The most dangerous action arrives at 16' and it's by Australia when a A.Mooy set piece was extended almost in the small box by a header before getting on a France defender who was almost making an own goal. The danger was greatly pushed away by LLoris in corner. The first half was mostly France attacking and Australia answering in counter-attack but the defenders did a very good job to block each other. Many crosses kept getting into both areas even in the second half but everything has been under control until the moment of the controversy penalty called for France. WE think it was a right call. Griezmann scored it at 56'. Not far from that moment it's Umiti who did an incredible ingenue gesture touching the ball with his hand in the middle of the area! Penalty for Australia and it was 1-1 signed by Jedinak. But the match winner was Paul Pogba who beat the keeper with a nice and probably fortunate lob shot at 81'. 2-1 for the blue team!
WE think Argentina can go far in this World Cup despite many sceptic journalists and social media peeps. Anyway the match against Iceland it was a tough one at least on paper especially considering the promising "Cold" National team. Couple of great chances for both team in the first 15 minutes, incredible the one missed by Bjarnason - a penalty in movement with an empty goal . It's the KUN Aguero who gave the first joy to the Sampaoli team scoring in his manner from the middle of the penalty box. 1-0 at 19'. After only 3 minutes the Iceland found the equalizer thanks to an insisted action from the right in which the ball finished on the feet of Finnbogason who tapped in after a save by Caballero, 1-1! Argentina attacked as crazy for almost the whole match while Iceland kind of parked the bus waiting the right moment to punish again but that moment never came. Messi wasn't as decisive as Cristiano and even missed a penalty kick at 64'. In fact the goalkeeper Halldorsson did few miracles here and there. Only 10 minutes for El Pipita Higuain and Dybala was just sitting on the bench. We saw a huge amount of people talking against Lionel Messi....come on guys... be serious ..... Anyway 1-1 but WE still believe Argentina could do well IF Sanpaoli will make few changes. Unbelievable leaving Maurito Icardi at home. The biggest problem of Argentina is actually in the last 16 meters.
Welcome back to Peru' in the competition (We just bought the Subbuteo team LW MP ref.455 :D )! Tough match against the solid Denmark. The first 20 minutes are actually in the hands of Peru' which even called the Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel to couple of great saves like the one on Carrillo. Farfan and company even had a chance to go in front in the first half when the VAR assigned a clear penalty at 45'+1'. Cueva shamefully missed it. 0-0 in the first half. The second half brought the best opportunities to Peru' once again but incredibly the players missed all by themselves at least 3 clear occasions (Carrillo slipped right in front of the keeper) and they got punished by a Denmark perfect counter-attack at 60' finalized by Youssuf Poulsen ! 1-0! Not even a minute far from that and Schmeichel made another superb save over a Flores short range strike. At 68' Farfan didn't arrive on the ball on time for a second! Peru kept pushing like bulls but always lacking of concentration at the decisive moment. A back heel of Guerrero went wide just of few centimetres, Farfan all alone in the middle of the box strongly shot over Schmeichel at 83' and a minute after the goalkeeper Gallese made a miracle over Eriksen. A terrific match, one of the best till now. Denmark brought back 3 very imporant points suffering till the end. 1-0.
