The Opening match for another great World Cup day it was Portugal Vs Morocco. It only took 5 minutes to Cristiano Ronaldo to put in a header thanks to a perfect corner by Moutinho. At 12' Benatia had a chance to equalize but his header was blocked by Rui Patricio. Morocco's confidence grew up minute by minute. CR7 got even kicked pretty bad by El Ahmadi but he probably did some acting. At 39' great ball by CR7 to Guedes who shot on Munir! Great save by the Moroccan goalie using one hand! Morocco was more smoke than anything concrete. Only at 45'+1' Younes Belhanda's header was almost giving a joy to his team but he didn't get it properly and the ball went wide. First half 1-0. The second half saw a very offensive Portugal which had couple of great chances in 7 minutes. One of them incredibly badly wasted by CR7 who shot to the stars all alone but he was running towards a deflected ball so it wasn't as easy as it seemed. Nice shot by Y.Belhanda at 55' but Rui Patricio was more than ready for it just like a minute after when he made a total miracle again on the same Maroccan player. Looked like a personal battle. At 61' Benatia fired over the crossbar a lost ball in the middle of a very crowded area. Then the match went on mostly with many free kicks for Morocco mostly cleared by the Portuguese defenders and the CR7 team's counter-attacks. After 5' of injury time the matched ended giving 3 important points to Portugal!
Second clash was the one between Uruguay Vs Saudi Arabia. A sort of formality "on papers" but with the Arabics focused on avoiding being the mattress team of the World Cup after losing 5-0 in the opening game by the hands of Russia. After 10 minutes of nothing you could see the Uruguay were starting to speed up the match and after few corner kicks there it was the 1-0 by Suarez, quick and perfectly positioned from a corner cross (23'). Two minutes after there was a good Saudi Arabia reaction: a powerful Hatan Bahbir's strike saved by Fernando Muslera. The striker missed another great chance at 28' shooting over the bar from a very convenient position. It's not a beautiful match even in the second half: just a free kick by Suarez and a wasted header by Carlos Sanchez all alone in the box were not much (62'). The rest is even worst. Probably the ugliest match of the World cup so far. Painful to watch.
Last match was between Iran and Spain. The Spanish had only once result: the victory and they made it. Surprisingly it was the Iran that started forward and even though the Spain took back the ball possession pretty quickly still they didn't have any good chance until practically almost the end of the first half when Silva conquered some space and fired to goal but the shot was deflected away. Disappointing 45 minutes even if high on intensity. The second half saw a Spain focused on getting the 3 points. At 50' the Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand did a great save on a Busquests shot and two minutes after Isco sent the ball over the bar but Spain started to mean serious business even if at 53' Iran almost celebrate as the Karim attempt looked like a goal for an optical trick! Only net! Goal missed Goal taken. Always him, Diego Costa scored at 54' this time very lucky as a defender practically cleared the ball on his leg before bouncing in the net for the 0-1! At 64' The Iranian supporters exploded of joy for a goal by Ezatolahi but the VAR disallowed it for a handball involved in the action. Imagine the disappointment of everyone after even a glorious celebration on the pitch. Almost heartbreaking. Iran came close to score when a deep cross was sent inside the Spain box, but the attackers just couldn't make the contact(76'). At 83' another great chance for Iran when Taremi went on the moon to make that header but the ball goes over the bar! That was very close! Unlucky Iran that deserved a goal. Nothing else happened after that more than some Spain ball possession and some fouls. Spain move up in the group !
